Cointelegraph Disappears from Google Search Index: Traffic Plummets by 98 Percent

Leading crypto news portal Cointelegraph has been missing from Google's search index since at least October 2025. For the publication, this represents a dramatic decline in visitor numbers of 90 to 98 percent. According to analyses, traffic in the United States dropped from over four million visits in August to just around 223,000 by the end of December.

Experts suspect a deliberate exclusion by Google due to violations of the Site Reputation Abuse Policy. According to reports, Cointelegraph published extensive content about online casinos and crypto gambling in summer 2025—topics outside its core journalistic focus. This content, allegedly created by external partners, primarily served commercial purposes.

In late August, Google launched a spam update targeting precisely these practices. Shortly thereafter, Cointelegraph's visibility collapsed. The portal subsequently removed all casino and gambling content from its website, presumably to meet the requirements for reinstatement. However, this step has so far been unsuccessful.

Neither Cointelegraph nor Google has commented on the incident. Whether and when the portal will reappear in search results remains unclear.
